Workshop on Mobile Security at MCTA 2010

January 11, 2010;

The workshop titled "Mobile Security – Attacking scenarios on mobile services. How (un)safe are Laptop, iPhone, Blackberry, etc.?" addresses a burning security issue. Whereas mobile communication tools were regarded as luxury in the past, they have become a necessity for many of us. The versatility of devices such as smartphones is increasing rapidly. Contact data, appointments, confidential messages, pictures as well as access data to accounts are stored and administrated there.

However, not only possibilities but also risks can result from the use of such tools. Anyone who is technically slightly adept is able to detect the location of the mobile phone, read foreign text messages, use it as a gateway and even eavesdrop on calls.  Most of these devices are as wide open as can be.

Marco Di Filippo is going to comment on various attacking scenarios in his workshop at the MCTA. He is going to demonstrate this, using the following methods and technologies: SAT (Application Toolkits), Early Media Attacks (dialling tones), Call-ID-Spoofing, tapping on messages, eavesdropping of calls and data, localisation, mobile phone Trojans, Bluetooth and WLAN hacking. The discourse is completed with experience reports from various field tests.

The workshop is aimed at technical executives as well as managers and team leaders dealing with the application, administration and implementation of mobile services for the sales force in enterprises. Further invited are users and employees who would like to obtain more information on the technical correlations of the mobile devices.
