CeBIT 2011: Compass demonstrates attacking scenarios on iPhone, Blackberry, etc.

February 22, 2011;

"Mobile services under attack - how save are they?" According to this slogan, Compass Security AG provides a live insight into the security risks of mobile end devices at the CeBIT. ICT security expert, Marco Di Filippo, Regional Director Germany of Compass, takes on the role of the hacker and highlights the security gaps of iPhone, Blackberry, etc. On the CeBIT booths respectively forums of Funkschau, heise and the anti virus specialist McAfee he is going to sensitise the visitors for the attacking methods of the data spies.

Many smart phone owners are not aware of the risks that modern mobile phones represent. They save e.g. sensitive data on their mobile phone and expose themselves to great danger. According to the "Study on the threat of smart phones" of the EU agency ENISA the hazards are especially linked to the loss of a device or the sale of it to a third party without deleting the private information beforehand. At the CeBIT, ICT security expert Marco Di Filippo is going to put modern mobile phone technologies to the test and is going to demonstrate the risks when handling mobile services and devices.

Hacking by order of the good
In talks the CeBIT visitors will experience live what kind of hazards are posed by mobile devices such as smart phones. The more versatile a modern mobile phone, the greater the potential dangers. Using certain Apps, cyber criminals may spy on and pass on sensitive information of the user, such as contacts, passwords, etc. Marco Di Filippo will confront the visitors with the weapons of their opponents in an entertaining way. He will also show them how they can protect themselves against an attack.
