After studying electrical engineering at the intercantonal technical college at Rapperswil, Walter Sprenger worked for NEXUS Telecom AG in Hombrechtikon for two years, developing software on X25 networks for billing and accounting applications. He was exposed to various development platforms running on DEC-VMS, NT and Unix. His tasks involved, among project management also the implementation of components according to specification.
He then moved to cnlab ag in Rapperswil where he directed security reviews of security systems and analysed software source code. The IT security activities included scans over distributed heterogeneous networks for important ISPs and several Swiss cantons. In addition, he investigated a banking application regarding security in a multi-staged process. Parallel to his work, Walter Sprenger completed a postgraduate course at the Management College St.Gallen/Zurich with the specialisation in business leadership.
As a co-founder of Compass Security, Walter Sprenger has worked as a security analyst and Managing Director since February 1999. Since the introduction of forensic services, he is course instructor in the Compass course "Evidence Lab". In addition, he teaches at the Technical High School Rapperswil and, as a tutor, assists two term projects and a diploma project per year.
